What's New: The Houston Chronicle editorial board offers praise for the progress made under the leadership of the Board of Mangers and Superintendent Mike Miles.

Catch up quick: A few noteworthy points from the editorial

Miles is an experienced administrator appointed by the Texas Education Agency to improve academic progress and demand accountability at a large urban district that has been lagging in both for too long.
And we congratulate Miles, who has faced everything from genuine concern and understandable skepticism from this community to hyperbolic outrage and low-brow poster board insults at every turn.
The man, people should know by now, is not part of some elaborate conspiracy by Gov. Greg Abbott to kill public schools.
[Miles] motives are not suspect.

Our thought bubble: A single editorial won't flip the hyperbolic, and at times manufactured, outrage of the last 12 months that has distracted from focusing on improving student outcomes.

But impressive academic performance across HISD should serve as a reason to give the Board of Managers and Superintendent Miles a second look and refocus on ensuring every HISD student has the opportunity to receive a high-quality education.
